The Canal Chapter is an inventive space, created and directed by artists to promote and cultivate emerging ideas. Formed 2 years ago by the collective 1134NYC, with the support of Red Bull, The Canal Chapter became a sculptural verb that functions as a social experiment. Inspired by the alternative art spaces that dominated SoHo four decades before, the members work together to procure a fertile environment for creative minds to thrive free from social limitations. Members vary in profession and focus from designers to engineers. It began as a reflection of New York's Downtown scene and now aims to extend the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary art dialogues.
MIKHAIL SOKOVIKOV, born in Moscow, and JASON WALL, born in Brooklyn, have combined their passion for art to create 1134NYC. With its roots in contemporary art/design, 1134NYC is an independent, New York-based company that offers creative services to a host of corporations and magazine publications worldwide including Red Bull, Mark Burnett Productions, Mass Appeal, Beautiful Decay magazines, The New Chelsea Museum, New York; Zoo York, powerHouse Books, ALIFE, Nike, Boost Mobile/Nextel, Bathing Ape, Blow and Warp magazines, Japan; Staff magazine, Spain; and Neverstop.. 1134NYC offers creative services in vast range from design concept development, curating, and guerilla marketing, to art installations, art direction, and apparel design.
